Bruce Roy’s Biography
Bruce Roy died peacefully at 85 on September 9, 2024 in the evening, in his loving Foster Care Home in Waipahu, Hawaii. He lived in California before moving to Hawaii in June of 2023.
Bruce originally was in the petroleum business, working for Roy Toms and his wife Doris, who were also his dear friends. Bruce then worked as an excellent tree trimmer and Arborist for many years. When very young, he first lived in Dutch Flat. As a young boy growing up in Colfax under the guidance of his father he built the adobe family home from their home-made-earthen-bricks. His mother Helen and father Bill are deceased as is his sister Adele and brother Alan.
Bruce has three children, two biological and one step. Mark Roy and Mary Anne Cathey with his first wife Kathy, and Anthony Sedillo from his current wife Patsy. Bruce has five grandchildren, Sean and Shannon from Mark and Julie Roy. Roy and John from Mary and John Kammer. And Liahna from Anthony and Yoshiko Sedillo.
Other family includes Adele’s sons Jeff and Lee Head, Lee’s wife Tina, and their families. Alan’s wife Jeanne Roy and their children Steve, Kelly, Tracy and their families.
Bruce was an intelligent man who cared deeply about his family and friends. His friend Len painted a beautiful picture of him and made a wooden box for his ashes. He loved his wife Patricia Paul fully. He helped out many of his less fortunate friends, and did what he could for strangers in need.
As an Arborist Bruce knew the future for a tree. He even looked like a tree standing next to one. He also loved dogs and would say he was “runnin’ with the dogs”. We had twenty-eight years of dogs between Spot and his son Boo. They were trained without Bruce training them. All he would have to do is step out on the porch and without saying a word they would know if he wanted them to come in or they could stay outside a little longer.
Bruce was an avid reader and liked to watch movies. He would comment often on world and political affairs. While living in Alameda, when he was able bodied he loved tinkering in the garage working on motorcycles and vehicles. In his youthful years he loved driving fast cars and motorcycles. Bruce would say, “It’s good enough for the girls we go with.” That would be me, his wife Patsy and all my girlfriends who were his friends too.
Bruce’s final wishes are to have his ashes scattered by a gigantic tree snag not too far from Dutch Flat. We are thinking sometime in the Spring of 2025. Please let us know if you would like to be notified when we have a set date. We plan to eat at the Monte Vista Inn in Dutch Flat after. Bruce (aka Roy Boy) will be missed, but lives on forever in our hearts.
